Water can be processed into solid forms such as ice cubes. Ice cubes are usually used as complementary products for juice, tea and other fresh drinks. This study aims to determine the quality of ice cubes sold in Sondakan Village in Surakarta based on the level of Escherichia coli contamination. This study used Most Probable Number (MPN) method which consists of preliminary test, affirmation test and complete test with three series of dilution tubes. A gram staining method was to also conducted in this study groups, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Samples were taken from three different places in Sondakan Village, Surakarta. The result of the MPN test showed that the MPN index value of the three samples were same, > 1100 colonies/ml. Basides, the result of Gram staining the samples appear red & pink cell. The observation under microscop showed that it has rod-shape, it indicates E.coli bacteria.
